Biography

Gulraiz received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore and completed a Masters in Transdisciplinary Design from Parsons The New School for Design, New York.

Gulraiz’s graduate thesis focused on civic engagement in low-income communities. He developed a Visioning and Strategy Framework for a four-year long, multiple-stakeholder engagement project in Thomas Jefferson Park in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York. Earlier in 2015, he worked as a Civic Design Fellow for the IDEO/Knight Foundation/Parsons collaboration titled Cities in Learning, and prototyped various touchpoints for a home rehabilitation ecosystem in Detroit, Michigan.

Prior to graduate school, Gulraiz worked as a senior sub-editor at the National Desk of The Express Tribune newspaper.

Gulraiz’s core interest are cities and their systems, tangible and intangible. He takes a human-centered design approach to his investigations, and works through collaborations. He is currently working on a research project titled The Dumb City, exploring the formal and informal transit system in Karachi.
